Situation
Before the implementation of Concrete, the New York State Archives Partnership Trust was facing a major challenge in providing teachers in New York State with easy access to the vast resources of the New York State Archives.
Impact
The archives contained a wealth of information and resources, but teachers found it difficult to use these resources effectively in their classrooms. The time and effort required for teachers to manually search for and compile information from the archives was a burden that took away from their valuable time for lesson planning and preparation.
Solution
The New York State Archives Partnership Trust and Web Instinct resolved the problem by creating a platform using Concrete CMS that provides teachers in New York State with an easy-to-use and interactive way to access and utilize the resources of the New York State Archives.
As a result of choosing Concrete CMS, provided by the New York State Archives Partnership Trust, 2,605 primary source materials and 1,433 learning activities were added and organized, leading to an easier and more efficient way for teachers to access and utilize the resources of the New York State Archives. This has created a more engaging and educational experience for students and has had a significant impact on the education system in New York State.
The new website offers three primary areas: Browse, Build & Share, and Access. In the Browse section, users can search through thousands of NYS Archive documents using a variety of filters and pagination options. The Build & Share section allows teachers to create interactive lessons and add questions and supporting materials.
The lessons can be shared publicly or kept private for students. The Access section enables public users to search existing lessons created by NYS Archives and teacher-created lessons (if shared publicly), while logged-in users can view and replicate lessons to their own account. This platform provides a resolution to the problem by giving teachers an efficient and effective way to access and utilize the resources of the New York State Archives, resulting in a more engaging and educational experience for students.
